240-24KA, Beverley Cameron, "Minyma Kutjara - Two Women", 122x102cm, acrylic on Belgian linen
Beverley depicts the story of two sisters from the country of Watarru in the Anangu PitjantjatjaraYankunytjatjara lands in South Australia. This is a story passed on to Beverley from her grandmother. In this story there are two sisters, the younger sister is pregnant, and the older sister is looking after her, hunting for bush tucker to feed her. Both sisters are painted in traditional designs, the younger sister has her belly painted and the older sister has her breasts painted. When the husband of the younger sister comes looking for her, they both hide in a rockhole, the older sister helping the younger sister to hide. The husband climbs up on some rocks and looks around but despite his efforts he cannot find her.
