Ngayuku Ngura - My Country, 2026
Bronwyn's paintings are inspired by the traditional country around Watarru Community. Knowledge of water and food was essential to survival in nomadic times. The sand-hills are interspersed by vast, flat plains of spinifex and native grasses which are criss-crossed by dry creeks surrounding Watarru on the APY Lands - Anangu Pitjantjatjara/ Yankunytjatjara Lands.
Her painting shows the rock holes (tjukula) and places around the Watarru. The patchwork effect of the land and the creeks which flood during heavy rain interchange and transform. The intense 'red' of the earth, however, is enduring.
