BIOGRAPHY

Christy Young is one of Tjala’s most promising emerging artists. Christy’s natural ability to draw and paint stems from her impressive family lineage of esteemed artists and cultural leaders. Christy’s mother Yaritji Young is a important Australian artist, senior law woman and traditional owner of the Country around Amata community. Christy’s grandparents Mick Wikilyiri and Paniny Mick are both important cultural leaders and artists who have influenced the current APY art movement.

Christy’s striking drawings combine her own artistic flair, her Mothers stories - Tjala Tjukurpa and iconography from her grandparents practices. Christy’s artwork displays the importance of knowledge transfer in Anangu culture and its significance in keeping cultural law and stories alive.
