Richard's painted works utilise circles to represent the many rockholes (tjukula) throughout her Country, Pipalyatjara in the APY Lands. Rockholes were a pivotal part of life and sources of water in the desert for the Anangu people in the past.
Pipalyatjara is in the far north-west of South Australia right near the border with Western Australia. I paint tjukula because finding water in the desert was so important to Anangu in the old days.
