Tjala tjukurpa - Honey ant story
Christy Young is an early career Pitjantjatjara artist working at Tjala Arts. Christy’s natural affinity for painting and drawing stems from her impressive family lineage of esteemed artists and cultural leaders, including from her mother Yaritji Young.
Christy’s striking drawings combine her own artistic sensibilities, her mother’s stories and iconography from her grandparents Mick Wikilyiri and Paniny Mick’s practices.
“I paint the stories of my grandparents. Tjintir Tjintirpa, is the story of two sisters who are chased by a water snake after hitting the serpent with their digging stick. The serpent's capture of the siblings transforms them into the water hole found West Yalata. My family shared this story with me when I was young, now I am sharing it with my own children so they can know and be strong in their culture.” Christy Young
